Something about me

Joachim C. Ballaux (°1991, Brussels, Belgium) experiments with the boundaries of images and image-making. As a ‘collagist’ with a background in film and graphic design, he finds himself rather in the position of a storyteller than an imagemaker.

Employing images from vintage magazines, old postcards and other printed media, Ballaux creates fascinating collages that bear qualities of Belgian Surrealism, Dada, found art and assemblage art.

His artist’s mark “serendiptic images” is derived from the term “serendipity”: the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for. Every collage from this serendiptic images -collection is therefore a unique artwork that cannot be reproduced. By combining images coming out of completely different contexts something new and something unique is created with higher value. And that is where the Dutch poet Lucebert reminds us that “anything of value is defenceless”.
